ESL
English as a Second Language
ESL refers to teaching English to students who live in an English-speaking environment — where English is the dominant language of daily life, education, and work. The student is surrounded by English outside the classroom. In India, ESL applies to English-medium schools where English is the primary medium of instruction, and to language institutes like BSL where English is taught intensively as a functional second language.
